Metal Crystal Models

Simple Cubic Structure

Body-Centered Cubic Structure

Face-Centered Cubic Structure

I modeled the metal crystal models during my Material Science class as a visualization tool for myself and my classmates. I did some research to determine the correct size and distance for each atom, and made assemblies that could be 3D-printed to help understand the different metal structures.

I also modeled the interstitial spaces to understand the largest alloy metal that could fit into the gaps between the primary atoms helping me to understand the size ratio between primary and interstitial atoms and their locations

I used the university’s 3D-printer to make several of these models as supplementary study materials for myself and several classmates.
